Best Leggings for Tall Women (Truly, Tested on Our Long Legs!)

Raise your hand if you’ve ever pulled on a pair of leggings only to realize they’re way too short. Yup, welcome to the tall runner club, where finding leggings that actually reach your ankles can feel like a full-on treasure hunt.

best leggings for tall womenAs women who are 5’9″, we know the struggle all too well. Finding tights that truly fit has always been a challenge, so Amanda and I rounded up some of our tried-and-tested favorite leggings for tall women.

The good news? More brands are finally offering multiple length options for running tights. There’s still a long way to go before everyone gets it right, but it’s encouraging to see more choices popping up for tall runners.

Traditionally, leggings only came in a regular length which is usually around 26inches and that just won’t cut it for us leggy ladies. Now you’ll often see petite, regular, and tall options, and some brands will provide the actual inseam measurements like 27-29″.

What are we looking for in a pair of running leggings or tights?

  • Length: does it come in tall or 30″+
  • Wicking: we don’t want a material that’s going to hold out sweat
  • Stays up and doesn’t sag
  • Pockets, they’re always a bonus

Let’s look at some different options to find your perfect pair.

7 Best Leggings for Tall Women of 2026

Best for Keeping Warm – Crash 2.0 PolarTec Tights from Title Nine Long Length

We love that these are available in different lengths, so you can select from regular or long. But for our tall friends, go with the long option to get extra coverage.

If you’re a runner like Amanda who really hates to be cold, these are a must when winter is throwing down.

This isn’t a chilly morning pair, but really that legging you want when the temps have really started to drop. They’re Amanda’s go to for getting through really cold runs. We love that the side zippered pocket is big enough for a phone, but not quite as easy to get things in and out as spandex pockets thanks to the zipper.

The bonus of the zipper is you can use these for a ton of winter activities.super warm running tights

Best for the Most Options for Sizing and Colors – Baleaf Leggings

If you’re looking for an affordable but high-quality pair of leggings, you’ll want to check out Baleaf.

This is a brand that I’ve purchased quite a lot from over the last year. Between their running shorts and leggings, you’re going to find something that fits perfectly, especially if you’re tall.

I love their leggings because they remind me of Lululemon but without the price tag. The thing that surprised me a lot about their leggings is how long they are, and that’s just for a regular length!

One thing to note is that I felt the sizing ran a little big, so instead of my typical medium, I would go down to a small. Sizing down will give you a more hugging fit, which I like, especially if there’s no adjustable drawstring.

Baleaf always has a ton of colors to pick from, so you’re bound to find something that you like. If you like the regular leggings, there’s also a fleece-lined pair that will keep you nice and warm during those wintery runs.

Best for All the Pockets – Athleta Rainier High Rise Leggings

Athleta always seems to have gear that just feels really great to pull on. But we’re also big fans of their size ranges, which means anyone can find a good fit for their workout.

Bonus points because these leggings come in different lengths, so no more exposed ankles, especially on colder days.

The SuperSonic material has a brushed interior with compression, which makes them feel super cozy and comfortable. Plus, they’re not going to fall or slide down as you run with the continuous drawstring in the waistband for a more custom fit.

Best for in the Gym or Running Leggings – Lululemon Wunder Train High Rise Tight 31″

The Wunder Train is perfect to wear in the gym for a HIIT or strength workout or to log your miles.

They’re made with a fast-drying Everlux fabric that won’t leave sweat marks, especially on lighter colors.

Right now, only the version without pockets comes in the longer length of 31″. So you are going to sacrifice the luxury of pockets here.

Compared to the Fast and Free tights, the Wunder Train will be a little thicker, which will come in handy on colder running days.

Best Loose-Fit Leggings – Puma x Alex Toussaint High-Waist Training Joggers

If you’re looking for a more relaxed fit, either on the run or post-workout, we highly suggest giving these joggers from Puma a try.

The material is super lightweight and designed with dryCELL technology to wick sweat away. So if you’re throwing these on post-workout and are sweaty, the joggers aren’t going to feel wet or heavy. They’ll dry pretty quickly so that you can go on about your day, running errands.

We know joggers can run a little short, but as you can see in the photo, they are 100% long enough for taller runners! puma joggers

All the Pockets – Wolaco Distance Full Tight

If you’re looking for a longer pair of running tights with pockets, here they are!

With the Wolaco Distance Full Tights, you’ll get two side pockets (one on the left mid-thigh and one on the right hip) and two smaller mesh pockets along the back waistband.

The material itself is incredibly soft, think buttery smooth, but I think that may be why the compression feels a bit light. I wore my usual medium, but I probably could’ve gone down a size. For reference, I’m 5’9″ with a curvier lower body.

In terms of length, they actually come down to my ankles, which isn’t the case with many running tights. I think going down a size to fit better at the waist, these would get added into my rotation (well at least on the days I’d stray away from typically running in shorts!)wolaco tights

They’re really comfortable. I’d compare them to  Lululemon Fast and Free tights; the material is just slightly thicker, which is nice if a chilly wind picks up while you’re outside.

Details

  • Size: XS-XXL (size down)
  • Colors: 5
  • Length: Full Legnth
  • Pockets: 4 pockets, 1 tshirt loop
  • Available from Wolaco.com for $158
  • Use code RUNTOTHEFINISH20 for 20% off

Quick Take

Pros

  • Sweat wicking and didn’t show sweat marks which is always nice
  • Super breathable material
Cons

  • Depending on the size of your phone, it may not fit in the pocket
  • The sizing runs big, so definitely size down

Best Budget Leggings – Under Armour Women’s HeatGear High No-Slip Waistband Leggings Tall

Amanda has used UA gear for years. It’s easy to find on Amazon or at Dick’s Sporting Goods, and it lasts. You may not get quite the same fashion or flattering fit, but it’s quality gear.

Listen I’m not going to say that we tall girls fully understand ankle leggings, or maybe that’s just an us thing. But if you are wanting that 7/8ths look as a taller runner these will do the job. Plus we like the heat gear for really wicking away the sweat all summer.

UA offers various options for these no-slip waist leggings, including length.high rise running leggings

We especially love the price of these leggings, and have found our UA gear to last a very long time. So no need to pay more!
