Skechers Aero Razor Review | Stop Sleeping on Skechers Running Shoes

If pleasant surprise could be defined in shoe form, it would be the Skechers Aero Razor.

Skechers Aero Razor CushionIt’s worth saying right away that I’ll be reaching for this shoe a lot. I’ve overlooked brands that are not as well known in the running shoe industry before, so I’m saying this to acknowledge you’re probably just like me. Read this!

This shoe provides comfort with a light upper and tongue, 4mm heel to toe drop and lower stack cushion, giving us some real Saucony Kinvara vibes that we love.

It’s sleeker than many of the shoes we’ve seen coming out recently, since many of the known running shoe brands have put a lot of emphasis in the development of either max cushion or carbon plated shoes.

This shoe is great for runners looking for a responsive speed shoe that keeps you moving forward and doesn’t try to do everything else.

Who is the Skechers Aero Razor a good fit for, let’s break it down by some common categories:

  • Wide Feet: There’s plenty of room in the toebox, but through the mid-foot it’s not wide.
  • Heavier Runners: A comfortable cushion paired with good traction, durability and stability from the Goodyear treads.
  • Long Runs: A great option for the long run workouts in your training plan.
  • Front of the Pack: Not a race day shoe, but definitely one to keep legs feeling fresh on some speed days.

The Skechers Aero Razor is unapologetically built for speed, and it shows from the moment you put it on. These are light, snappy, and not subtle about pushing you forward, which is exactly what they’re designed to do.

Skechers Aero Razor Overview

The Aero Razor definitely embodies Skecher’s “comfort that performs” definition for the Aero line. It’s a shoe that makes picking up speed seamless, keeps legs fresh and turning over, but also comfortable when dialing back for the in-between intervals.

We feel like we’ve been saying only great things about Skecher’s running shoes for over a year, are you listening yet?!

Skechers Aero Razor WearI truly had no idea what to expect and was a bit skeptical, but I think the Aero Razor could be the pivot Skechers needed to get noticed.

My first thought when opening the box truly was “WOW, I’m so excited to put these on that I am putting them on right now.” They were sleek and VERY light.

From the first run, I could tell it would help in absorbing every step without the feeling of sinking in – this is not a max cushion shoe, so you won’t get the feel from a Brooks Glycerin Max or an Asics GEL-NIMBUS – while also giving that feel of up and forward energy return in each toe-off (think Puma Deviate Nitro or Asics Superblast).

Skechers Aero Razor InstepThe Aero Razor doesn’t have a very prominent rocker, so if you’re just standing you won’t feel that urge to lean into the run, but that doesn’t take away from how the combination and design of the midsole makes for an incredibly smooth turnover.

I wore the shoes in shorter runs, mid-long runs, walks, easy effort and tempo, and I enjoyed every run.

Although this won’t be the shoe I reach for on easy effort days, this is now top of the list for tempo or marathon-paced work.

The most similar shoe to this, in my opinion, is the Puma Deviate Nitro. Both have parts of carbon plate in the midsole. The cushion, toe-off and the toebox space are very similar to me. If you do like the feel of the Pumas, it will be worth giving the Skechers a try.

Skechers Aero Razor ReviewThe Aero Razors will cost $140, which is on the lower end range for a speed shoe (compared to the Puma Deviate Nitro 4 cost of $180), a good price if it’s your first time buying a speed shoe and you’re not sure if you want to invest on a full-on super shoe yet.

The only thing I didn’t think stood out, but that Skechers highlighted, is the “Skechers Archfit,” which the brand labels as a “Podiatrist Certified Arch Support.”

This arch technology is supposed to “mold to your foot, reduce shock, and increase weight dispersion,” and although I didn’t feel any arch curves different from other shoes I wear, I do feel that the shoe did achieve those things.

Tester Brittni: After a handful of runs in the Skechers Aero Razor, one thing is clear: this shoe was made to move fast.

From sprints to shorter tempo runs, it gives a firm, snappy feel that encourages you to push your pace. I tried running slower long runs in them at around 11-minute miles, and my arches reminded me quickly that this shoe has a very specific calling.

Once I adjusted to their pace-loving personality on faster efforts, though, they felt right at home.

While we see bigger brands trending toward max, chunkier shoes, Skechers’ sleek design is visually appealing for those looking for a standard speed shoe that isn’t overly cushioned (or expensive).

I love the colorway that I received to review, the all-white with a streak of blue and a streak of green. It’s very wearable, and even more fun when you get to play into matching it with your running outfit and accessories.

Tester Brittni: Visually, the Aero Razor looks ready to move. While the colorways weren’t my personal style, the mix of textures made the shoe interesting and sleek. It’s certainly not trying to be a shoe that you’d mix in for casual wear, both from a mechanics and visual aspect.

Quick Take

Pros

  • Great price point
  • Thin, breathable tongue
  • Great traction

Cons

  • Narrower toebox
  • Not for easy paced runs

Skechers Aero Razor Fit

I got my standard running shoe size in these and they were a perfect, comfortable fit. No need to go up or down in size.

I’m not a fan of super thick tongues on shoes, but find that some shoes with no tongue cushion at all can be uncomfortable to lace and lock in the ankle.

This one is perfect for me, but if you love thicker material under your laces, this shoe might not be for you.

It’s thin and breathable, with specific placement of some thin cushioning. The laces over the tongue do have the ridges to better stay tied (I always double-knot it anyway because no one wants to risk tripping from a lace coming undone; but it very much stays securely in place).

The toebox feels just right, with enough room to spread my toes around but not too much that they’re sliding with each stride. Earlier I compared the Aero Razor to the Puma Deviate Nitro, and the Razor has a bit more room along the arch and toebox than the Deviate Nitro.

The upper is also thin and breathable. It’s also soft to the touch, which differentiates it from some of the thinner uppers we see nowadays – those feel more plastic-like to me – I usually don’t mind those, but just something to note.

Another win is in the heel and ankle lock. The ankle and heel padding hugs my foot but doesn’t smother it.

The design and material of this shoe is honestly a home run for me. Everything is there for comfort, but just enough that the shoe is still very lightweight.

Skechers Aero Razor FoamTester Brittni: The toebox is snug-to-average. Once broken in, I didn’t notice any pressure around my toes, but there’s not extra room to stretch or breathe.

The midfoot felt secure, thanks in part to the engineered mesh upper and gusseted tongue. The snug fit keeps your foot locked in, and the lacing system lets you adjust easily without slipping.

Sizing runs ever-so-slightly small, so I’d go up a half size if you’re between sizes, but not noticeably small enough that my true size didn’t work. Overall, the fit feels intentional to keep you moving quick.

Skechers Aero Razor Feel

Skechers designed the Aero Razor to provide a stable ride without the stability factor that we see in some Brooks or Hokas, for example.

In my opinion, it’s more stable than some other speed shoes or daily trainers (think Adidas Evo SL), and I think that’s from the rubber Goodyear Performance Outsoles and the traction they provide on foot landing. It feels almost sticky in the front part of the rubber sole, in a way that you’re certain you won’t slide.

Skechers Aero Razor OutsoleFrom the first time putting the shoe on, I immediately understood the midsole concept and design. It cushions in the back and transitions into a snappier feel in the front.

The back is made of Skechers Hyper Burst Pro foam. It absorbs the landing but doesn’t overly compress, so it’s pretty responsive. I can’t speak to how long lasting it is yet, but I wore it every other day for two weeks and the shoes felt fresh each run.

As the back foam tapers in the front, we see the H-Wing (nylon and carbon plate) part of the midsole adding rigidity and in turn a very snappy, responsive ride.

I’ve been alternating running days and strength training days, and even on tired legs from lifting, these shoes help my legs feel fresh, with seamless strides.

Skechers Aero Razor HeelBe mindful of the 4 mm drop. If you’re used to an 8 mm or 10 mm drop, you’ll have to ease into wearing these. Four millimeters might not look or sound significant, but can make a different in the loading of your ankles versus knees and hips. It’s all nuanced and individual too, of course, but just something to keep in mind.

I have both the Puma Deviate Nitro 3 and the Adidas EVO SL, and I really enjoy both of those for speed days and long run workouts, but these will 100% be added to my rotation. To me, the rubber sole on these has more traction than both, and I think it’ll be more durable than the EVO SL.

Tester Brittni: Despite being lightweight and low to the ground, stability is excellent. My ankles, one of which is currently nursing a minor injury, felt supported and secure, even during faster intervals.

The 4 mm drop enhances forward momentum, giving each stride a natural rocking motion from midfoot to forefoot. It encourages a running style that feels smooth and efficient.
